When Daddy's Away...And When He's Back!

Daniel went to LA for his annual work conference. After church the day he left, an ice cream truck came to visit! Noah and Lyla loved their popsicle and ice cream!

Then Grandma Shoemaker came to visit. She tried to potty-train Lyla, but Lyla was having none of it. She repeatedly asked to wear panties, but by the end of the first day she was hysterically crying when even going into the bathroom and hadn't purposefully pottied once. We decided to call it quits since she was so upset and didn't feel like she was ready. So the rest of the week we got to just have fun with Grandma!

Dinner out--Lyla dipping blue corn chips into yogurt. She thought it was good, but Grandma and I declined her offers to try it!
A beautiful day at the park!
A trip to Eckert's to go apple and peach picking!
On the wagon ride.
Picking apples. Noah LOVED picking. Noah and Lyla (and Mommy and Grandma) loved eating what we

My special helpers watering our next door neighbors' (aka Grandma and Grandpa) plants while they were out of town.
The day after Daniel got back, we got to enjoy a date night to the Rams football game. We were thankful for that extra time, especially after he had been gone all week!
We were also thankful for pizza and nachos!
I finally got Lyla's letters done for her room (about 19 months after the age Noah had gotten his!)
First day of preschool, TAKE TWO!
We had a big life change last week. Lyla had been bitten four times in the past month at her current daycare. There were some other issues we weren't entirely thrilled with at her place, but this was the final straw. We pulled her from there, and pulled Noah from his school, and got a nanny. To be entirely honest, I often thought nannies were a little pretentious (mostly because I thought it would be really expensive), but it's actually cheaper than what we were paying for two daycares! We debated the decision for a long time, mostly because we really love Noah's early childhood center, but we needed to make sure Lyla was safe. Fortunately, the early childhood center had an opening in their part day/part time program, so he switched buildings and schedules and gets to stay plugged in as we trek toward kindergarten. A week later, the kids are loving their new nanny, and Daniel and I are happy that they are both safe!

While Bubby was at school, Lyla got to have a playdate with our sweet friend Beckett and her mom. The girls loved following each other from the swings to the slides and back again. These girls are in the same small group at church, and we think this picture will be really cute when they are in the high school youth group together!

Lyla wouldn't take a pacifier as a baby, but we've caught her several times with her baby doll's binky in her mouth! Silly girl!

Summer's Almost Over!

Boo! We love summer time. But the good part is my work schedule goes back to three days a week, so that means more "hang out with Mommy time" and we like that!
Trying on Mama's headband from Sports Camp.
Trying on their backpacks. They both take their bags with some toys in it almost wherever we go. Lyla loves it and asks for her bag regularly!

We found a new favorite place--The Frisco Train Store. It has several train tables with lots of tracks and trains to play with. The best part? It's free! Both kids love it!

Sick days call for selfies. Lyla isn't one to sit and cuddle, but I got lots this day! We are thankful illnesses are something minor with quick recoveries!
Ice cream treats!
Our small group had a pool party. Lyla kept walking over to the ladder and posing with a crossed leg or a knee pop. She was cracking us up.

The boys love floating in the boat!
Picnic lunch!
Lyla climbed up on this chair, turned, and cheerfully said, "Hi!!"
Her future is so bright she has to wear her shades indoors.
Emily introduced us to "Dream Play"--a showroom with a LOT of playsets on display that kids can play on.  The kids took great naps that day!

Lyla loves carrying her bag!
Your baby gnaws on a carrot in the tub, too, right?? Silly girl.
Noah's first day of preschool!

First day (technically, second day...) in the Lion Room!

Summer Life Part 3

Noah and I loved being a part of Sports Camp at our church. I played piano and Noah really liked going early with me to watch rehearsals with the band and dance team.
The mission project for the week was to fill backpacks with school supplies. The church collected them and will deliver them to area schools. Noah loved picking out the perfect items to fill our backpack.
At the end of camp, we had a huge tailgate party where the band played on a stage outside, we ate hot dogs and cotton candy and sno-cones, and played on inflatables. Our church throws a fun party! And we are thankful for the extra time learning about Jesus and his love for us.

We love our trips to the Magic House!
A Lego car.
The cutest Ameren worker ever!

Building a fort. Can you see them?

Practicing jumping. You have to get really low for enough leverage. haha. :)
Trying to get some air!
Noah and Cole playing Paw Patrol at Cole's great-grandma's birthday party.
