Pictures

I've just recently joined the world of smart phone users. I know...years behind my time. I've gotten one twice before and then had buyer's remorse and I return or sell it and switch back to a ghetto flip phone (no offense to all you other late smart phone bloomers). I just could never justify the extra expense and never really liked being that attached to other people with Facebook and email and calls all in one spot. I'm not sure why I feel differently now, but I'm loving it. Anyway, all of that to say that it's easier to snap some "in the moment" pictures of our little guy without having to first figure out where we last left our camera. We've been depriving you of pictures lately so here you go. (This part of the post was also typed out on my phone which is much trickier than a regular keyboard, as I'm still getting used to it. Hope you enjoy!)

In health related news, we had his checkup at the pediatrician this morning. He's much better but still wheezing, so we have to continue breathing treatments for a while. At least he tolerates them pretty well! The worst news was that he's still considered contagious for at least another week, which means we don't get to meet Baby Cole for at least that long (but probably longer!!) So disappointed, but we definitely want to keep the Riley's healthy!

He's doing so much better with tummy time!
Good morning!
A breathing treatment. I'm not actually strangling him like it appears...
Play time!
Relaxing with Daddy on a "not feeling so good" day.
First time sitting in a big boy high chair at a restaurant!
Yum! Blueberries!

He thinks panting with Daddy is so fun right now. Strange child. :)

On the mend

I hope we are on the mend!! Noah is sounding a little less congested every day, though he still has a stuffy nose, and his appetite is improving a little more every day. We are down to three breathing treatments a day and hope to eliminate them completely after his check up on Monday. He even took his medicine straight from the syringe today without getting sick! He does still tend to gag and get sick with his spoon feeding once or twice a day (not really sure what that's about) which we're hoping gets better soon. On the downside of things, our sweet baby boy decided to share his germs with both of us. It's even harder to take care of a sick baby when you are congested and don't feel well, too! Hoping we all get better soon.

In much happier news: a huge congratulations to our sweet friends Mark and Emily who welcomed Baby Riley (now known as Cole) to their family tonight. We can't wait to meet him and are so happy for
you guys!

Not so fun...

So remember how I said our sweet boy was sick? And we'd keep an eye on him? Ay yai yai...
Our poor baby has RSV and fluid in his left ear. We've had a rough couple of days! Noah's congestion got a little worse over the weekend, and he spiked a fever (up to 102.2 at the highest we saw), so we took him to see our sweet friend Emily (you might remember she's a nurse practitioner at Noah's pediatrician's office). She had an otoscope at home and I had a stethoscope, so she checked his ears and lungs for us on Sunday. She recommended if he was still running a fever Monday to take him in to the office. Monday morning we thought he was getting better but his fever spiked again and we finally decided (Daniel was off for the day) we better have him checked out. After a two-hour visit, two breathing treatments, and a nasal swab, we were sent home with bottles of Tylenol, antibiotics, a nebulizer and albuterol. We're supposed to do breathing treatments every four hours, Tylenol every 4-6, and the antibiotic 2 times a day, on top of his regular Zantac dose, multi-vitamin, and Miralax. My head is spinning!

Noah does really well with the breathing treatments--surprisingly well considering he has to sit with this mask on his face for 20 minutes each time. But sleeping and eating are rough since he is so clogged he can't suck on his pacifier or to eat without taking a break every 3-4 sucks to pull off and breathe. And he doesn't like the taste of the Tylenol or the antibiotic and has vomited every time I've given them to him today. We're on outfit number 3 and have gone through 5 bibs and it's only 1:00. It's rough in the Sampson household today. But it could be worse, and we're grateful for our friend Emily and Noah's pediatrician for helping us out when we needed them. Here's to hoping our baby boy is better soon!

Doc Appt

Noah and I went to his orthopedic appointment this morning. After waiting to be seen for an hour, we finally got to meet with the specialist. She did a little physical exam, asked some questions, and reviewed his x-rays. She raved about how he had "textbook perfect hips" on his x-rays, and then told me that he was fine. Yay! She said this could be completely normal and will probably fix itself and we shouldn't be concerned. She did say that we needed to stop swaddling him immediately so his legs could fall in a "frog-like" position, which would be the best position for his hips and joints to grow and develop the way they need to develop. Um, didn't you just tell me he had perfect hips? Well, lady, he's been swaddled almost every day of his short little life and they've apparently developed just fine! :) We're thankful for that! Thanks for your prayers and concerns!!

In other health related news, we're "enjoying" his first cold, which has now settled in his chest and makes him have a terrible hacking cough. We're keeping a close eye on him to make sure it doesn't get worse. For any of you moms who don't know, the NoseFrida works amazing wonders. It looks/sounds/is disgusting, but clears his nose soooo much better than the nasal aspirator bulb thingy. A big thanks to my friend Aimee for sharing that tidbit with me! (Available at Whole Foods or Amazon...and no I'm not getting paid for this endorsement!) :)

Sorry I don't have any pictures today. Just a boring old post. Maybe next time!

Video

This was much funnier the first time...he worked and worked to pick up the phone from his tray and as soon as he did, he smiled and laughed so much. It was a "you-had-to-be-there" moment, but the second time around was still cute.

7 months!

Yes, I know. His 7 month birthday was actually yesterday. I did take the pictures yesterday, but we were so busy celebrating (i.e., changing poopy diapers, eating, and playing) that I didn't get the pictures uploaded. We've been enjoying a visit from my parents this weekend, and took a trip to Lebanon last weekend, and I worked three days last week, so once again, we've been busy!

I love blueberries!

Hanging out with cousin Matthew.

He seriously loves drinking out of a cup.

We have an appointment with the orthopedic specialist on Thursday. We haven't noticed the "hip clicking" nearly as often in the past few days, but we're still going to take him to ease our minds that everything is okay!
